DATA SHEET
Interface Application-specific port protection ICs detail TPD4S311A
The TPD4S311 is a single-chip USB Type-C port protection device that provides 20-V Short-to-VBUS overvoltage and IEC ESD protection. Since the release of the USB Type-C connector, many products and accessories for USB Type-C have been released that do not meet the USB Type-C specification. One example of this is USB Type-C Power Delivery adaptors that only place 20 V on the VBUS line. Another concern for USB Type-C is that mechanical twisting and sliding of the connector could short pins due to the close proximity they have in this small connector. This can cause 20-V VBUS to be shorted to the CC and SBU pins. Also due to the proximity of the pins in the Type-C connector, there is a heightened concern that debris and moisture will cause the 20-V VBUS pin to be shorted to the CC and SBU pins. These non-ideal equipments and mechanical events make it necessary for the CC and SBU pins to be 20-V tolerant, even though the pins only operate at 5 V or lower. The TPD4S311 enables the CC and SBU pins to be 20-V tolerant without interfering with normal operation by providing over-voltage protection on the CC and SBU pins. The device places high voltage FETs in series on the SBU and CC lines. When a voltage above the OVP threshold is detected on these lines, the high voltage switches are opened up, isolating the rest of the system from the high voltage condition present on the connector. Finally, most systems require IEC 61000-4-2 system level ESD protection for external pins. The TPD4S311 integrates IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection for the CC1, CC2, SBU1, and SBU2 pins, eliminating the need to place high voltage TVS diodes externally on the connector.

Interface FPD-Link SerDes detail DS90UB940N-Q1
The DS90UB940N-Q1 is a FPD-Link III deserializer which, together with the DS90UB949/947/929-Q1 serializers, converts 1-lane or 2-lane FPD-Link III streams into a MIPI® CSI-2 format. The deserializer can operate over cost-effective, 50-Ω, single-ended coaxial or 100-Ω, differential shielded twisted-pair (STP) cables. The device recovers the data from one or two FPD-Link III serial streams and translates the data into a Camera Serial Interface (CSI-2) format that can support video resolutions up to WUXGA and 1080p60 with 24-bit color depth. The FPD-Link III interface supports video and audio data transmission and full duplex control, including I2C and SPI communication, over the same differential link. Consolidation of video data and control over two differential pairs decreases the interconnect size and weight and simplifies the system design. EMI is minimized by the use of low voltage differential signaling, data scrambling, and randomization. In backward compatible mode, the device supports up to WXGA and 720p resolutions with 24-bit color depth over a single differential link. The device automatically senses the FPD-Link III channels and supplies a clock alignment and de-skew functionality without the need for any special training patterns. This ensures skew phase tolerance from mismatches in interconnect wires such as PCB trace routing, cable pair-to-pair length differences, and connector imbalances.

The TRSF3243E consists of three line drivers, five line receivers, and a dual charge-pump circuit with ±15-kV ESD (HBM and IEC61000-4-2, Air-Gap Discharge) and ±8-kV ESD (IEC61000-4-2, Contact Discharge) protection on serial-port connection pins. This device provides the electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and the serial-port connector. The charge pump and four small external capacitors allow operation from a single 3-V to 5.5-V supply. In addition, this device includes an always-active noninverting output (ROUT2B), which allows applications using the ring indicator to transmit data while the device is powered down. The device operates at data signaling rates up to 1 Mbit/s and an increased slew-rate range of 18 V/µs to 150 V/µs. Flexible control options for power management are available when the serial port is inactive. The auto-powerdown feature functions when FORCEON is low and FORCEOFF is high. During this mode of operation, if the device does not sense a valid RS-232 signal, the driver outputs are disabled. If FORCEOFF is set low, both drivers and receivers (except ROUT2B) are shut off, and the supply current is reduced to 1 µA. Disconnecting the serial port or turning off the peripheral drivers causes the auto-powerdown condition to occur.

Interface UARTs detail TL16C750E
The TL16C750E is a single universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) with 128-byte FIFOs, fractional baud rate support, automatic hardware, software flow control and data rates up to 6 Mbps. The device offers enhanced features such as fractional baud rate and a transmission character control register (TCR) that stores received FIFO threshold level to start or stop transmission during hardware and software flow control automatically without intervention from the CPU. With the FIFO RDY register, the software gets the status of TXRDY or RXRDY, saving extra GPIO usage. On-chip status registers provide the user with error indications, operational status, and modem interface control. System interrupts may be tailored to meet user requirements. An internal loop-back capability allows onboard diagnostics. The TL16C750E incorporates the functionality of UART, the UART having its own register set and FIFO. This version includes the Alternate Function Register (AFR) and this is used to enable some extra functionality beyond the capabilities of the TL16C750 version. One addition is the IrDA mode, which supports Standard IrDA (SIR) mode with baud rates from 2400 to 115.2 kbps. The third addition is support for RS-485 bus drivers or transceivers by providing an output pin (DTRx) per channel, which is timed to keep the RS-485 driver enabled as long as transmit data is pending. Another name for the UART function is asynchronous communications element (ACE), and these terms are used interchangeably. The bulk of this document describes the behavior of each ACE, with the understanding that two such devices are incorporated into the TL16C750E device.

Interface USB hubs & controllers detail TUSB8043A
The TUSB8043A is a four-port USB 3.2 x1 Gen1 (5 Gbps) hub. It provides simultaneous SuperSpeed USB and high-speed/full-speed connections on the upstream port and provides SuperSpeed USB, high-speed, full-speed, or low-speed connections on the downstream ports. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports high-speed or full-speed/low-speed connections, SuperSpeed USB connectivity is disabled on the downstream ports. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports full-speed/low-speed connections, SuperSpeed USB and high-speed connectivity are disabled on the downstream ports. The TUSB8043A supports per port or ganged power switching and over-current protection, and supports battery charging applications. An individually port power controlled hub switches power on or off to each downstream port as requested by the USB host. Also when an individually port power controlled hub senses an over-current event, only power to the affected downstream port is switched off. A ganged hub switches on power to all its downstream ports when power is required to be on for any port. The power to the downstream ports is not switched off unless all ports are in a state that allows power to be removed. Also when a ganged hub senses an over-current event, power to all downstream ports is switched off. The TUSB8043A downstream ports provide support for battery charging applications by providing Battery Charging Downstream Port (CDP) handshaking support. It also supports a Dedicated Charging Port (DCP) mode when the upstream port is not connected. The DCP mode supports USB devices which support with the USB Battery Charging, Galaxy Charging, and Chinese Telecommunications Industry Standard YD/T 1591-2009. In addition when upstream port is unconnected, the TUSB8043A supports the divider charging port modes (ACPx modes) and an automatic transition through all modes, starting with ACP3 and ending in DCP.

Isolation Isolated DC/DC converters & modules detail UCC25800-Q1
The UCC25800-Q1 ultra-low EMI transformer driver integrates the switching power stage, the control, and the protection circuits to simplify isolated bias supply designs. It allows the design to utilize a transformer with higher leakage inductance, but much smaller parasitic primary-to-secondary capacitance. This low-capacitance transformer design enables an order of magnitude reduction in the common-mode current injection through the bias transformer. This makes the transformer driver an ideal solution for the isolated bias supply in various automotive applications to minimize the EMI noise caused by the high-speed switching devices. The soft-switching feature further reduces the EMI noise. The transformer driver has a programmable frequency range of 100 kHz to 1.2 MHz. This high switching frequency reduces the transformer size and footprint, as well as the overall cost of the bias supply. The integrated SYNC function allows the system bias supplies to synchronize with an external clock signal, further reducing the system level noise. The dead-time adjusts automatically to minimize the conduction loss and simplify the design. The programmable maximum dead-time ensures power stage design flexibility. With the integrated, low-resistance switching power stage, the transformer driver can achieve a 6-W design with 24-V input, and up to 9-W from 34-V input. With a fixed input voltage, the open-loop control also helps the output regulation to remain ±5% when the load is above 10%. The programmable overcurrent protection (OCP) allows flexibility on the power stage design to minimize the transformer size. The protection features such as adjustable OCP, input OVP, TSD and the protection from pin faults ensure robust operation. A fixed 1.5-ms soft-start period reduces the inrush current during start-up and fault recovery. The transformer driver also provides a dedicated multi-function pin for external disabling, and fault code reporting. The fault code reporting sends the fault code once the bias supply is in the protection mode. The UCC25800-Q1 transformer driver is offered in an 8-pin DGN package with the thermal pad to enhance its thermal handling capability

Isolation Solid-state relays detail TPSI3050
The TPSI3050 is a fully integrated, isolated switch driver, which when combined with an external power switch, forms a complete isolated Solid State Relay (SSR). With a nominal gate drive voltage of 10 V with 1.5/3.0-A peak source and sink current, a large variety of external power switches can be chosen to meet a wide range of applications. The TPSI3050 generates its own secondary bias supply from the power received from its primary side, so no isolated secondary supply bias is required. Additionally, the TPSI3050 can optionally supply power to external supporting circuitry for various application needs. The TPSI3050 supports two modes of operation based on the number of input pins required. In two-wire mode, typically found in driving mechanical relays, controlling the switch requires only two pins and supports a wide voltage range of operation of 6.5 V to 48 V. In three-wire mode, the primary supply of 3 V to 5.5 V is supplied externally, and the switch is controlled through a separate enable. Available in three-wire mode only, the TPSI3050S features a one-shot enable for the switch control. This feature is useful for driving SCRs that typically require only one pulse of current to trigger. The secondary side provides a regulated, floating supply rail of 10 V for driving a large variety of power switches with no need for a secondary bias supply. The application can drive single power switches for DC applications or dual back-to-back power switches for AC applications, as well as various types of SCR. The TPSI3050 integrated isolation protection is extremely robust with much higher reliability, lower power consumption, and increased temperature ranges than traditional mechanical relays and optocouplers. The power transfer of the TPSI3050 can be adjusted by selecting one of seven power level settings using an external resistor from the PXFR pin to VSSP. This action allows for tradeoffs in power dissipation versus power provided on the secondary depending on the needs of the application.

Logic & voltage translation Buffers, drivers & transceivers detail SN74HCS240-Q1
This device contains eight independent inverting line drivers with 3-state outputs and Schmitt-trigger inputs. Each channel performs the Boolean function Y = A in positive logic. The channels are grouped in sets of four, with one OE pin controlling each set. The outputs can be put into a hi-Z state by applying a high on the associated OE pin.

Logic & voltage translation General-purpose transceivers detail SN54LVC646A-SP
The SN54LVC646A octal bus transceiver and register is designed for 2.7-V to 3.6-V VCC operation. This device consists of bus-transceiver circuits, D-type flip-flops, and control circuitry arranged for multiplexed transmission of data directly from the input bus or from the internal registers. Data on the A or B bus is clocked into the registers on the low-to-high transition of the appropriate clock (CLKAB or CLKBA) input. Figure 1 shows the four fundamental bus-management functions that are performed with the SN54LVC646A device. Output-enable (OE) and direction-control (DIR) inputs control the transceiver functions. In the transceiver mode, data present at the high-impedance port is stored in either register or in both. The select-control (SAB and SBA) inputs can multiplex stored and real-time (transparent mode) data. DIR determines which bus receives data when OE is low. In the isolation mode (OE high), A data is stored in one register and B data can be stored in the other register. When an output function is disabled, the input function still is enabled and can be used to store and transmit data. Only one of the two buses, A or B, can be driven at a time. Inputs can be driven from either 3.3-V or 5-V devices. This feature allows the use of this device as a translator in a mixed 3.3-V/5-V system environment. This device is fully specified for partial-power-down applications using Ioff. The Ioff circuitry disables the outputs, preventing damaging current backflow through the device when it is powered down. To ensure the high-impedance state during power up or power down, OE should be tied to VCC through a pullup resistor; the minimum value of the resistor is determined by the current-sinking capability of the driver

Logic & voltage translation Bus-termination arrays detail CD40117B
CD40117B is a dual 4-bit terminator that can be programmed by means of STROBE and DATA control bits to function as pull-up or pull-down resistors. The CD40117B can also be programmed to function as latches to terminate any open or unused CMOS logic when used with 3-state logic or during a power-down condition. Considerable savings in power and board space can be realized when this device is used to replace pull-up or pull-down resistors. When the STROBE is in the logic “”1″” state, the terminator functions as a pull-up resistor if the DATA input is a logic “”1″” or as a pull down resistor if the DATA input is a logic “”0″”. When the STROBE is in the logic “”0″” state, the terminator performs the latch functions, i.e., it follows the changing states of the bus. If the bus goes into the high-Z state or into a power-down condition, the latched terminator retains the data (“”1″” or “”0″”) that the bus carried before it switched to the high-Z or power-down state. If and when the bus changes from the high-Z state to the state opposite to that which the latch is storing, the bus will override the latch and the terminator will reflect the state on the bus. The small geometries chosen for the inverters in the latch allow this override mode. When checking the data bus whose last state is being preserved by the terminator, a resistor should be used in series with the probe whose input capacitance could trip the small latches. The resistance should be in excess of the output impedance of the latch, i.e., R should be > 30 K at VDD = 10 V. The STROBE and DATA inputs in each section can be paralleled allowing this device to be used as an 8-bit bus terminator. The CD40117B types are supplied in 14-lead dual-in-line plastic packages (E suffix), 14-lead small-outline packages (M, MT, M96, and NSR suffixes), and 14-lead thin shrink small-outline packages (PW and PWR suffixes).

The output level is referenced to the supply voltage (VCC) and supports 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5-V CMOS levels. The input is designed with a lower threshold circuit to support up translation for lower voltage CMOS inputs (for example, 1.2 V input to 1.8 V output or 1.8 V input to 3.3 V output). In addition, the 5-V tolerant input pins enable down translation (for example, 3.3 V to 2.5 V output).

Motor drivers Half-bridge drivers detail UCC27284
The UCC27284 is a robust N-channel MOSFET driver with a maximum switch node (HS) voltage rating of 100 V. It allows for two N-channel MOSFETs to be controlled in half-bridge or synchronous buck configuration-based topologies. Its 3-A peak source and sink current along with low pull-up and pull-down resistance allows the UCC27284 to drive large power MOSFETs with minimum switching losses during the transition of the MOSFET Miller plateau. Since the inputs are independent of the supply voltage, UCC27284 can be used in conjunction with both analog and digital controllers. Two inputs, and therefore outputs, can be overlapped, if needed, in applications such as secondary side full-bridge synchronous rectification. The input pins as well as the HS pin are able to tolerate significant negative voltage, which improves system robustness. The enable and disable functionality provides additional system flexibility by reducing the gate driver power consumption and quickly responds to fault events within the system. 5-V UVLO allows systems to operate at lower bias voltages, which is necessary in many high frequency applications and improves system efficiency in certain operating modes. Small propagation delay and delay matching specifications minimize the dead-time requirement which further improves efficiency. Undervoltage lockout (UVLO) is provided for both the high-side and low-side driver stages forcing the outputs low if the VDD voltage is below the specified threshold. An integrated bootstrap diode eliminates the need for an external discrete diode in many applications, which saves board space and reduces system cost. The TPS2585x-Q1 is a family of highly-integrated USB Type-C charging controller for dual-USB ports application. The device integrates a monolithic, synchronous, rectified, step-down, switch-mode converter with internal power MOSFETs and two USB current-limit switches with charging port auto-detection. The TPS2585x-Q1 offers a compact solution that achieves 6.6 A of continuous output current with excellent load and line regulation over a wide input supply range. The synchronous buck regulator operates with peak-current mode control and is internally compensated to simplify the design. A resistor on the FREQ pin sets the switching frequency between 200 kHz and 3 MHz. Operating below 400 kHz results in better system efficiency and operation above 2.1 MHz avoids the AM radio bands and allows for use of a smaller inductor. The TPS2585x-Q1 integrates standard USB Type-C port controller functionality including Configuration Channel (CC) logic for 3-A and 1.5-A current advertisement. Battery charging (Rev. 1.2) integration provides the required electrical signatures necessary for non-Type-C, legacy USB devices which use USB data line signaling to determine USB port current sourcing capabilities. The TPS2585x-Q1 also has integrated VCONN power that can meet the USB3.1 power requirement. The part is especially suitable for dual-port application due to the high system integration and small footprint. The TPS2585x-Q1 supports intelligent thermal management. The USB output voltage and Type-C current advertisements can be regulated according to the temperature sensing through the TS pin. It must connect a NTC thermistor on the TS pin to monitor the ambient temperature or PCB boar temperature, depending on where the NTC thermistor is put in the USB charging module or PCB board. Select a different NTC thermistor and bottom-side series resistor can change the temperature threshold for load shedding. The TPS2585x-Q1 have four selectable USB output voltage settings: 5.1 V, 5.17 V, 5.3 V, and 5.4 V. The TPS2585x-Q1 integrates a precision current sense amplifier for cable droop compensation and user-programmable current limit tuning. The cable compensation is only available when the output voltage is set to 5.17 V. The cable compensation voltage is 90 mV at 2.4-A output current. Cable compensation aids portable devices in charging at optimum current and voltage under heavy loads by changing the buck regulator output voltage linearly with load current to counteract the voltage drop due to wire resistance in automotive cabling. The BUS voltage measured at a connected portable device remains approximately constant, regardless of load current, allowing the battery charger of the portable device to work optimally. The TPS2585x-Q1 provides various safety features for USB charging and system operations, including external negative thermistor monitoring, cycle-by-cycle current limit, hiccup short-circuit protection, undervoltage lockout, BUS overcurrent, OUT overcurrent, and die overtemperature protection. The device family is available in a 25-pin, 3.5 mm x 4.5 mm QFN package.
